Belgium has seized control on the brick market. In 2014, Belgium exported 939 thousand tonnes of clay building bricks totaling 133 million USD, 20% over the previous year. From 2007 to 2014, Belgium was a net exporter of clay building bricks. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

China and Germany were among the other main global suppliers of clay building bricks in 2014. China was the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 (+31.1% per year). With this surge, China was able to significantly strengthen its position in the global export structure.
