Australia dominates in the global сottonseed trade. In 2014, Australia exported 326 thousand tonnes of сottonseed totaling 119 million USD, 28% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global cottonseed market was the U.S., where it supplied 41% of its total cottonseed exports in value terms, accounting for 87% of the U.S. total imports.

The Republic of Korea was the global leader in cottonseed imports. In 2014, the Republic of Korea imported cottonseed for the amount of 178 million USD. From 2007 to 2014, the average annual import growth of the Republic of Korea amounted to 5%. In physical terms, imports reached 69 thousand tonnes.

The U.S. and Greece were among the other main global suppliers of сottonseed in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Australia (+38% per year) and Brazil (+32% per year). Australia significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Australia's top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Japan, the Republic of Korea, China and Saudi Arabia, with a combined 99.5% share of Australia's сottonseed exports. The share of the U.S. increased significantly (+41 percentage points), while the share of Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-67 percentage points).
