Australia dominates in the global aluminium ore and concentrate trade. In 2014, Australia exported 18,584 thousand tonnes of aluminium ores and concentrates totaling 601 million USD, 16% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was China, where it supplied 96% of its total exports on the aluminium market in value terms, accounting for 28% of China's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Australia was a net exporter of aluminium ores and concentrates. In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms, the difference was even more pronounced due to low export prices.

Brazil and India were among the other main global suppliers of aluminium ores and concentrates in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Malaysia (+69% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+50% per year).

In 2014, Australia's top 3 trading partners were China, the Republic of Korea and the U.S., with a combined 99% share of Australia's aluminium ore and concentrate exports. The share of China increased significantly (+58 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. (-4 percentage points) and the Republic of Korea (-2 percentage points) illustrated negative dynamics.
