China seized control of the articles of plaster market. In 2014, China exported 722 thousand tonnes of articles of plaster totaling 308 million USD, 13% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Indonesia, where it supplied 6.2% of its total articles of plaster exports in value terms, accounting for 54.4% of Indonesia's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of articles of plaster. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms, the difference was even more pronounced due to high import prices.

Germany and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of articles of plaster in 2014. China, along with the Netherlands, were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 (+15.8% per year and +23.7% per year, respectively). With this, China was able to significantly strengthen its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, China's top 5 trading partners were Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, India and the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 23.6% share of China's articles of plaster exports. The share of Indonesia increased modestly (+4.7 percentage points), while the share of the United Arab Emirates illustrated negative dynamics (-3.1 percentage points).
