China’s Exports of AC/DC Motors On the Rise, with $5,473M in 2014 Electric Motors And Generators July 13, 2015

China seized control of the AC/DC motor market. In 2014, China exported 350 kt of AC/DC motors totaling $5,473M, 7% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 19.4% of its total AC/DC motor exports in value terms, accounting for 1.1% of total U.S. imports.

From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of AC/DC motors. Over the period under review, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms, the difference was on the same level.

Germany and the U.S. were the main global suppliers of AC/DC motors in 2014. Together with China they were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014. Annual growth rates from these countries were +10% (China), +4% (Germany) and +9% (the U.S.) per year. With this, China significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, China's top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Brazil, Japan, Italy and Turkey, with a combined share 40% of China's exports. The share of Brazil increased significantly (+4 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-2 percentage points).
