China dominates in the global trade of iron or steel bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts. In 2014, China's exports of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) surged upward, reaching 592 thousand tonnes, translating to 821 million USD, 51% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Ethiopia, where it supplied 16.1% of its total exports on the bridge market in value terms, accounting for essentially all of Ethiopia's total imports (99.3%).

From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel). In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. The difference in physical terms was even more pronounced.

In 2014, China's top 5 trading partners were Ethiopia, Algeria, the United Kingdom, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia, with a combined 50.1% share of Chinese bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) exports. The share of Ethiopia increased significantly (+15.4 percentage points), while the share of Pakistan illustrated negative dynamics (-3.1 percentage points).
