China dominates in the global rabbit or hare meat trade. In 2014, China exported 13 thousand tonnes of rabbit or hare meat totaling 55 million USD, 43% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global rabbit meat market was Belgium, where it supplied 39% of its total rabbit or hare meat exports in value terms, accounting for 69% of Belgium's total imports.

Overall, the global rabbit or hare meat trade reached 229 million USD, with a CAGR of 2% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it increased from 44 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 47 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, Germany (17%), Belgium (15%), the Russian Federation (13%), France (7%) and Italy (6%) were the leading destinations of rabbit or hare meat imports, together making up 59% of global imports. The share of Russia increased (+9 percentage points), while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-8 percentage points).

Hungary and France were among the other main global suppliers of rabbit or hare meat in 2014 with a combined share of 30% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+10% per year) and Spain (+8% per year). China significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 14% in 2007 to 24% in 2014.
