Between 2009 and 2013, the EU scaffolding equipment market showed mixed dynamics, reaching 2.4 billion EUR.

Output of the five major producers of scaffolding equipment in the EU, namely Germany, Italy, Poland, France and Spain, represented more than 67% of total production in 2013. In Poland and Italy, production levels increased by 8.8% and 7.2% annually from 2009-2013. The balance of the countries showed mixed dynamics: Germany (+4.1%), France (+0,1%) and Spain (-8.2%).   

EU imports experienced mixed dynamics in the last seven years. The significant drop in 2009 (44.5% Y-o-Y) was followed by a sharp increase over the next three years. The average annual growth rate of EU imports from 2009-2013 was 7.1%, in value terms.

In 2013, China (77.4 million tonnes), the United Arab Emirates (40.6 million tonnes) and India (16.8 million tonnes) were the main suppliers of scaffolding equipment into the EU and together made up 71% of total imports. While the share of the United Arab Emirates and India increased significantly, the share of the Russian Federation illustrated negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Between 2009 and 2013, EU exports showed a strong upward trend, gaining 6.8% in physical terms and 7.6% in value terms. In 2013, Switzerland (48.6 thousand tonnes) and Chile (21.8 thousand tonnes) were the main destinations of EU exports, together comprising 17% of its total exports. However, the fastest growing importers of EU products from 2009-20013 were Peru (+151% per year), Chile (+57%) and Russia (+33%).
