EU Table Linen Production Undergoes a Downturn

From 2007 to 2014, EU table linen production showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 22,413 tonnes in 2007 to 17,429 tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -3.5% over the period under review. In value terms, EU table linen production decreased to 238 million EUR in 2014, falling by -5.6% annually.

The countries with the largest production of knitted or crocheted table linen in absolute volumes were Portugal (1,621 tonnes), Estonia (1,123 tonnes), Lithuania (494 tonnes) and Croatia (352 tonnes).

Positive dynamics in table linen production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Portugal (+6.9% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Estonia, Lithuania and Croatia) the paces of growth were negative.

Portugal dominated in EU table linen production and ranked fourth in trade. In 2014, it exported the lion's share of its total table linen output. Of this amount, 35% was supplied to Spain, where Portugal's knitted or crocheted table linen held a 19% share of total Spain's imports.
