EU Woven Woolen Fabrics Production Takes a Downturn

EU production of woven woolen fabrics showed mixed dynamics from 2007 to 2014, ultimately falling from 529 million square meters in 2007 to 205 million square meters in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 12.6% over the period under review. In value terms, EU woolen fabrics production decreased to 1 935 million EUR in 2014, falling by 4.2% annually.

Italy was the largest producer of woven woolen fabrics in absolute volumes, with 140 million square meters, followed distantly by the United Kingdom (14 million square meters), Germany (11 million square meters) and Austria (4 million square meters).

From 2007 to 2014, all the leaders showed negative dynamics in relative values: Italy (-13.4%), the UK (-3.7%), Germany (-9.2%) and Austria (-10.7%). However, the share of the United Kingdom increased (+3 percentage points), while the share of Italy illustrated negative dynamics (-3.7 percentage points).
