From 2007 to 2014, EU production on the soap market showed steady growth, rising from 1,322 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 2,532 thousand tonnes in 2014. It expanded with a CAGR of +9.7% over the period under review. In value terms, EU soap production reached 3,965 million EUR in 2014, growing by +6.3% annually.

The countries with the largest production of soap in absolute volumes were Spain (295 thousand tonnes) and France (162 thousand tonnes). These countries showed positive dynamics between 2007 and 2014, with +1.3% per year in Spain +10.8% per year growth in France.

France ranked second in EU soap production and fifth in trade. In 2014, it exported 50% of its total soap output. Of this amount, 14% was supplied to Belgium, where French soap held a 13% share of total Belgium's imports.
