France dominates in the global snail trade. In 2014, France exported 0.9 thousand tonnes of snails totaling 7.9 million USD, 68% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global snail market was Romania, where it supplied 74% of its total snail exports in value terms, accounting for 94% of Romania's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, France was a net importer of snails. Over this period, imports consistently exceeded exports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was more pronounced.

Romania and Italy were among the other main global suppliers of snails in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Bosnia and Herzegovina (+95% per year) and India (+53% per year). Italy significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, France's top 5 trading partners were Romania, Spain, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan, with a combined 94% share of France's snail exports. The share of Romania increased significantly (+34 percentage points), while the share of Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-5 percentage points).
