Sausage Market - Germany Is the Unsurpassed Leader in EU Sausage Production and Trade

From 2008 to 2014, EU sausage production showed mixed dynamics, finally rising from 5,263 thousand tonnes in 2008 to 5,342 thousand tonnes in 2014. In value terms, EU sausage production was 21.2 billion EUR in 2014, growing by +1.9% annually.

Germany was the largest producer on the sausage market in absolute volumes, with 1,469 thousand tonnes. It was followed by Poland (570 thousand tonnes), France (436 thousand tonnes), Spain (436 thousand tonnes) and the United Kingdom (330 thousand tonnes).

From 2008 to 2014, Poland (+1.4%) and France (+1.5%) showed positive dynamics. The United Kingdom showed negative dynamics dropping by -2.7% over the analyzed period.

Germany dominated in EU sausage production and trade. In 2014, it exported 10% of its total sausage output. Of this amount, 21% was supplied to the United Kingdom, where Germany's sausages held a 28% share of the country's total imports.
