From 2007 to 2014, EU production of quicklime, slaked and hydraulic lime showed negative dynamics, falling from 34.7 million tonnes in 2007 to 24.6 million tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -4.8% over the period under review. In value terms, EU lime production decreased to 2.1 billion EUR in 2014, falling by -1.6% annually.

Germany was the largest producer of lime in absolute volumes, with 7.1 million tonnes. It was distantly followed by France (3.4 million tonnes) and Italy (3.1 million tonnes).

Each country leading in the production of quicklime, slaked lime and hydraulic lime showed negative dynamics. The steepest patterns of decrease in the period from 2007 to 2014 were observed in Italy (-9.9% per year) and France (-8.6% per year).

Germany dominated in EU lime production and ranked second in trade. In 2014, it exported 10% of its total lime production output. Of this amount, 59% was supplied to the Netherlands, where Germany's quicklime, slaked lime and hydraulic lime held a 50% share of the country's total imports.
