Germany Prevails in the EU Trailer Manufacturing and Exports

From 2007 to 2014, EU trailer production showed a steady decrease, falling from 325 thousand units in 2007 to 86 thousand units in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 17.2% over the period under review. In value terms, EU trailers and semi-trailers production decreased to 1,396 million EUR in 2014, falling by 8.5% annually.

The countries with the largest production of trailers and semi-trailers in absolute volumes were Germany (33 thousand units), the United Kingdom (25 thousand units), Sweden (23 thousand units) and France (17 thousand units).

From 2007 to 2014, each leading trailer producing country displayed patterns of decline: Germany (-7.4% per year), the UK (- 8.8% per year), Sweden (-11.5% per year) and France (-28.5 per year).

Germany dominated in EU trailer and semi-trailer production and trade. In 2014, Germany exported the lion's share of its total trailer output. Of this amount, 30% was supplied to France, where Germany's caravan-type trailers and semi-trailers comprised the greater part of total French imports.
