Organic Pigments Market - Germany Remains the EU Key Manufacturer of Synthetic Organic Dyes

From 2007 to 2014, EU production on the organic pigments market showed mixed dynamics, eventually falling from 645 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 545 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -2.4% over the period under review. In value terms, EU coloring matter production decreased to 2,733 million EUR in 2014, falling by -0.3% annually.

Germany was the largest manufacturer of coloring matter and pigments in absolute volumes, with 147 thousand tonnes produced. It was distantly followed by Spain (80 thousand tonnes), the United Kingdom (49 thousand tonnes), the Netherlands (29 thousand tonnes) and Denmark (26 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in coloring matter and pigment production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in the Netherlands (+9.4% per year), while for the other four EU leaders (Spain, the UK, the Netherlands and Denmark) the paces of growth were negative.

Germany dominated in EU synthetic organic pigment production and trade. In 2014, it exported the lion's share of its total coloring matter output. Of this amount, 11% was supplied to Finland, where Germany's coloring matter held a 74% share of total Finland's imports.
