Germany Remains the Most Prominent EU Producer of Plastic Tubes, Pipes and Hoses

From 2007 to 2014, EU plastic tube production showed a steady decrease, falling from 5,866 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 4,667 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -3.2% over the period under review. In value terms, EU plastic tube production was 14.0 billion EUR in 2014.

Germany was the largest producer of plastic tubes, pipes and hoses in absolute volumes, with 968 thousand tonnes. It was distantly followed by Italy (680 thousand tonnes) and Denmark (139 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in plastic tube production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Denmark (+1.3% per year), while for the other two EU leaders (Germany and Italy) the paces of growth were more modest or negative.

Germany dominated in EU plastic tube production and trade. In 2014, it exported 49% of its total plastic tube output. Of this amount, 10% was supplied to the Netherlands, where German plastic tubes, pipes and hoses held a 30% share of the Netherlands's total imports.
