Tobacco Market - Germany Tops the List of the EU Tobacco and Tobacco Substitute Producers

From 2007 to 2014, EU tobacco and tobacco substitute production showed mixed dynamics, ultimately rising from 233 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 254 thousand tonnes in 2014. It expanded with a CAGR of 1,3% over the period under review. In value terms, EU production on the tobacco market reached 3,038 million EUR in 2014, growing by 8.5% annually.

Germany was the largest producer of tobacco and tobacco substitute in absolute volumes (46 thousand tonnes). It was distantly followed by Greece (13 thousand tonnes) and Portugal (11 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in tobacco production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Portugal (выросла в 2.2 раз), while for Germany and Greece the paces of growth were more modest.

Germany dominated in EU tobacco production and ranked third in trade. In 2014, Germany exported the lion's share of its total tobacco and tobacco substitute output. Of this amount, 17% was supplied to Poland, where Germany's tobacco held a 45% share of total Poland's imports.
