Germany took the second spot in the global carboy and other plastic article trade. In 2014, Germany exported 162.6 thousand tonnes of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics totaling 788 million USD, 1% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was France, where it supplied 17.1% of its total exports on the plastic bottle market in value terms, accounting for 22.1% of France's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Germany was a net exporter of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics. In this period, exports exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, imports exceeded exports.

China and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics in 2014. China was the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 (+21.1% per year), followed by Poland (+8.0% per year). By virtue of this sustained growth, China was able to significantly strengthen its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Germany's top 5 trading partners were France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, with a combined 57.9% share of Germany exports. The share of Switzerland increased modestly (+2.1 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-2.0 percentage points).
