Greece Is the Leader in the EU Trade of Natural Abrasives

EU production of natural abrasives showed mixed dynamics over the period from 2007 to 2014, falling from 2,130 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 890 thousand tonnes in 2014. From 2007 to 2014, it dropped with a CAGR of 12.3%. In value terms, EU production of natural abrasives decreased to 14.3 million EUR in 2014, falling 13.9% annually.

The countries with the largest production of natural abrasives in absolute volumes were Greece (512 thousand tonnes) and Spain (220 thousand tonnes).

Greece dominated in EU production and trade of natural abrasives. In 2014, Greece exported 88.7% of its total natural abrasive output. Of this amount, 30.1% was supplied to Israel.
