Italy Is the EU Primary Producer and Exporter of Stuffed Pasta and Couscous

From 2007 to 2014, EU stuffed pasta and couscous production showed a steady decrease, falling from 2,048 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 1,677 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -2.8% over the period under review. In value terms, EU stuffed pasta and couscous production was 4,125 million EUR in 2014, growing by +0.4% annually.

Italy was the largest producer of stuffed pasta and couscous in absolute volumes, with 513 thousand tonnes. It was distantly followed by France (360 thousand tonnes) and the United Kingdom (250 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in pasta and couscous production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in France (+1.3% per year), while for the other two EU leaders (Italy and the UK) the paces of growth were negative.

Italy dominated in EU pasta and couscous production and trade. In 2014, it exported 48% of its total stuffed pasta and couscous output. Of this amount, 20% was supplied to France, where Italian stuffed pasta and couscous held a 47% share of total France's imports.
