Italy Is the Leading EU Yarn of Wool Exporter

From 2007 to 2014, EU yarn of wool production showed negative dynamics, falling from 213 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 120 thousand tonnes in 2014, with a CAGR of 7.9%. In value terms, EU yarn of wool production decreased to 1,412 million EUR in 2014, falling by 2.2% annually.

The countries with the largest production of yarn of wool in absolute volumes were Italy (58 thousand tonnes), the United Kingdom (17 thousand tonnes), Lithuania (8 thousand tonnes) and Portugal (4 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in yarn of wool production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Lithuania (+4.6% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Italy, the United Kingdom and Portugal) the pace of growth was more modest or negative.

Italy dominated in EU yarn of wool production and trade. In 2014, Italy exported 43% of its total yarn of wool output. Of this amount, 15% was supplied to the United Kingdom, where Italy's yarn of wool held a 57% share of the United Kingdom total imports.
