Italy Ranks First in EU Plastic Spool Production

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics showed mixed dynamics, ultimately rising from 2,172 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 2,467 thousand tonnes in 2014. It expanded with a CAGR of +1.5% over the period under review. In value terms, EU plastic spool production reached 7,611 million EUR in 2014, growing by +1.8% annually.

Italy was the largest producer of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics in absolute volumes, with 626 thousand tonnes. It was followed by Germany (482 thousand tonnes), the United Kingdom (456 thousand tonnes), France (230 thousand tonnes) and Spain (190 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in spool production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Germany (+2.4% per year) and France (+4.6% per year).

Italy dominated in EU plastic spool production and ranked second in trade. In 2014, it exported 13% of its total spool output. Of this amount, 15% was supplied to France, where Italy's spools, cops and similar supports of plastics held an 11% share of total French imports.
