Italy Remains the Strongest Exporter of Vegetables (Homogenized Preparations)

Despite relatively flat year to year export numbers in 2014, Italy continued to lead the way in the global trade of vegetables (homogenized preparations). In 2014, Italy exported 11 thousand tonnes of vegetables (homogenized preparations) totaling 15 million USD, 2% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the United Kingdom, where it supplied 18% of its total exports of vegetables (homogenized preparations)in value terms, accounting for 21% of the United Kingdom's total imports.

Overall, the global trade of vegetables (homogenized preparations) reached 107 million USD, with a CAGR of 4% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed steady growth, rising from 42 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 47 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, Belgium (15%), the United Kingdom (14%), the Russian Federation (12%), France (5%) and Germany (4%) were the leading destinations of imports of vegetables (homogenized preparations), together making up 49% of global imports. The share of Belgium increased (+5 percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-9 percentage points).

Germany and France were among the other main global suppliers of vegetables (homogenized preparations) in 2014 with a combined 20% share of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Egypt (+32% per year) and Poland (+14% per year). Poland, by virtue of this sustained growth, nearly doubled its position in the global export structure, from 5% in 2007 to 9% in 2014.
