Italy is the Top EU Producer of Wire of Iron or Non-Alloy Steel

EU wire production showed mixed dynamics from 2007 to 2014, falling from 6 922 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 6 471 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 1.0% in the period under review. In value terms, EU wire production decreased to 5 866 million EUR in 2014, falling by 1.4% annually.

The countries with the largest production of wire in absolute volumes were Italy (1 683 thousand tonnes), Germany (1 419 thousand tonnes), the Czech Republic (364 thousand tonnes) and the United Kingdom (144 thousand tonnes).

Positive dynamics in wire production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Italy (+0.3% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Germany, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom) the paces of growth were negative.

Italy dominated in EU wire production and ranked second in trade. In 2014, Italy exported 28% of its total wire output. Of this amount, 16% was supplied to Switzerland, where Italy's wire held a 40% share of total Switzerland imports.
