With a huge jump in exports in 2014, Mexico surged to the second spot on the water heater market. In 2014, Mexico exported 36.8 thousand tonnes of electric water heaters and immersion heaters totaling 261 million USD, 33% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 99.6% of its total electric water heater and immersion heater exports in value terms, accounting for 63% of U.S.'s total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Mexico was a net exporter of electric water heaters and immersion heaters. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

China and Italy were among the other main global suppliers of electric water heaters and immersion heaters in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+11.5% per year) and Egypt (+115.2% per year). China, by virtue of this slow and steady growth, was able to strengthen its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Mexico's top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Brazil, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Chile, with a combined 99.8% share of Mexico's electric water heater and immersion heater exports. The share of Brazil increased marginally (+0.1 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-0.2 percentage points).
