New Zealand continued its dominance in the global kiwi fruit trade. In 2014, New Zealand exported 392 thousand tonnes of kiwi fruit totaling 833 million USD, 26% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global kiwi fruit market was Japan, where it supplied 24% of its total kiwi fruit exports in value terms, accounting for 95% of Japan's total imports.

Overall, the global kiwi fruit trade reached 2,246 million USD, with a CAGR of 5% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed growth, rising from 1,150 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 1,181 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, Japan (9%), Germany (9%), Belgium (9%), China (9%) and Spain (9%) were the leading destinations of kiwi fruit imports, together making up 45% of global imports. The share of China increased (+8 percentage points), while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-5 percentage points).

Italy and Belgium were among the other main global suppliers of kiwi fruit in 2014 with a combined 38% share of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Greece (+19% per year) and Spain (+9% per year). Greece strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 2% in 2007 to 5% in 2014.
