Poland dominates in the global rye trade. In 2014, Poland exported 801 thousand tonnes of rye totaling 169 million USD, 15% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global rye market was Germany, where it supplied 72% of its total rye exports in value terms, accounting for 86% of Germany's total imports.

From 2008 to 2014, Poland was a net exporter of rye. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was more pronounced.

Germany and Canada were among the other main global suppliers of rye in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were the U.S. (+50% per year) and Slovakia (+13% per year). Poland strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Poland's top 5 trading partners were Germany, the U.S., Denmark, Spain and Finland, with a combined 97% share of Poland's rye exports. The share of Denmark increased (+6 percentage points), while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-16 percentage points).
