Portugal: EU Largest Manufacturer of Chemical Wood Pulp Exports 99% of the Product

From 2007 to 2014, EU chemical wood pulp production showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 538 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 494 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -1.2% over the period under review. In value terms, EU chemical wood pulp production reached 367 million EUR in 2014, growing by +4.3% annually.

The countries with the largest production of chemical wood pulp in absolute volumes were Portugal (85.6 thousand tonnes) and Germany (76.2 thousand tonnes)

The main producing countries showed negative dynamics in chemical wood pulp production from 2007 to 2014: Portugal with -3.0% per year and Germany with -4.8% per year.

Portugal dominated in EU chemical wood pulp production and trade. In 2014, it exported 99% of its total chemical wood pulp output. Of this amount, 88% was supplied to China, where Portugal's chemical wood pulp held a 1% share of total Chinese imports.
