Spain Remains a Key SAN and ABS Copolymers Producer

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of SAN and ABS copolymers in primary forms showed mixed dynamics, eventually falling from 913 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 910 thousand tonnes in 2014. In value terms, EU production of styrene-acrylonitrile and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene reached 1,935 million EUR in 2014, growing by +5.0% annually.

The countries with the largest production of SAN and ABS copolymers in absolute volumes were Spain (143 thousand tonnes) and Italy (130 thousand tonnes).

Italy's production of SAN and ABS copolymers showed positive dynamics from 2007 to 2014 (+5.8% per year), while Spain witnessed a decrease of its production volumes by -3.1% for this period.

Spain dominated in EU production of SAN and ABS copolymers in primary forms and ranked second in trade. In 2014, it exported 58% of its total SAN & ABS copolymers output. Of this amount, 22% was supplied to Germany, where Spain's SAN & ABS copolymers held an 8% share of total Germany's imports.
