The Italian Safety Glass Industry Thrives

From 2007 to 2014, EU safety glass production showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 6,298 million EUR in 2007 to 6,101 million EUR in 2014. In physical terms, EU safety glass production decreased to 124 square meters in 2014.

Italy was the largest producer of safety glass in value terms, with 1,143 million EUR. It was distantly followed by Poland (753 million EUR), the United Kingdom (659 million EUR), France (607 million EUR) and Spain (516 million EUR).

Positive dynamics in safety glass production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Poland (+9.7% per year) and Italy (+1.6% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (the United Kingdom, France and Spain) the paces of growth were negative.

Italy dominated in EU safety glass production and ranked third in trade. In 2014, it exported 49% of its total safety glass output. Of this amount, 25% was supplied to Germany, where Italy's safety glass held a 12% share of total German imports.
