The U.S. dominates in the global veneer sheet trade. In 2014, the U.S. exported 100 thousand tonnes of veneer sheets totaling 331 million USD, 2.5% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Canada, where it supplied 36.2% of its total exports on the veneer sheet market in value terms, accounting for 78.8% of Canada's total imports.

Overall, the global veneer sheet trade dropped to 2,569 million USD, with a CAGR of -5.0% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed decline, falling from 1,717 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 1,394 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, the U.S. (11.5%), China (6.0%), Italy (5.9%), Germany (5.4%) and Japan (4.9%) were the leading destinations of veneer sheet imports, together making up 33.8% of global imports. The share of China increased (+3 percentage points), while the share of Italy illustrated negative dynamics (-4 percentage points).

The U.S. and China were among the other main global suppliers of veneer sheets in 2014 with a combined share of 23.7% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 was the Russian Federation (+27.4% per year). China strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 5% in 2007 to 11% in 2014.
