The U.S. continues its dominance in the global millet trade. In 2014, the U.S. exported 41 thousand tonnes of millet totaling 59 million USD, 35% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global millet market was Canada, where it supplied 14% of its total millet exports in value terms, accounting for 73% of Canada's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, the U.S. was a net exporter of millet. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced, with the exception of 2011 and 2014, when low export prices made this difference more pronounced.

India and China were among the other main global suppliers of millet in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Ethiopia (+77% per year) and Romania (+43% per year).

The U.S.'s top 5 trading partners were Canada, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation, Belgium and the Republic of Korea, with a combined 37% share of the U.S.'s millet exports. The share of the Republic of Korea increased (+3 percentage points), while the share of Belgium illustrated slight negative dynamics (-1 percentage points).
