The United Kingdom: The Leader in EU Production of Processed Liquid Milk Keeps Expanding

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of processed liquid milk showed mixed dynamics, eventually rising from 35.3 million tonnes in 2007 to 38.4 million tonnes in 2014. It expanded with a CAGR of +1.2% over the period under review. In value terms, EU processed milk production reached 20.8 billion EUR in 2014, growing by +2.5% annually.

The United Kingdom was the largest producer of processed liquid milk in absolute volumes, with 8.1 million tonnes. It was distantly followed by France (4.8 million tonnes), Italy (3.0 million tonnes), Poland (1.8 million tonnes) and Austria (1.2 million tonnes).

Positive dynamics in processed milk production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in the United Kingdom (+4.0% per year), while for the other four EU leaders (France, Italy, Poland and Austria) the paces of growth were more modest or negative.

The United Kingdom dominated in EU processed milk production and ranked sixth in trade. In 2014, it exported 8% of its total processed milk output. Of this amount, 95% was supplied to Ireland, where the United Kingdom's milk held the lion's share of total Irish imports.
