The United Kingdom Remains the EU Leader in Umbrella Production

From 2007 to 2014, EU umbrella production showed mixed dynamics, eventually falling from 15,755 thousand units in 2007 to 10,951 thousand units in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 5.1% over the period under review. In value terms, EU umbrella production decreased to 165 million EUR in 2014, falling by 5.7% annually.

The countries with the largest production of umbrellas in absolute volumes were the United Kingdom (2,487 thousand units), Italy (2,063 thousand units), France (750 thousand units) and Portugal (506 thousand units).

Positive dynamics in umbrella production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were in Portugal (+5.4% per year), the UK (+2.7% per year) and France (+2.4% per year), while Italy's pace of growth was negative (-19.3% per year).

The United Kingdom dominated in EU umbrella production and ranked fifth in trade. In 2014, the country exported the lion's share of its total umbrella output. Of this amount, 23% was supplied to Ireland, where the UK umbrellas held a 79% share of total Ireland's imports.
