The U.S. dominates in global exports on the dental laboratory market with a 17% share (based on USD), followed by Switzerland (16%) and Germany (12%). In 2015, the U.S. exported 491 million USD worth of dental laboratories, -9% less than the year before.

From 2007 to 2015, U.S. dental laboratories exports showed mixed dynamics. A significant increase from 2007 to 2010 was followed by a slight decline in 2011. 2012 and 2013 were marked by an upward trend, with a peak of 565 million USD in 2013. U.S. exports declined during the recent years, ending 2015 only slightly above the level of 2008.

In 2007-2015, the positions of the U.S. companies on overseas markets of dental laboratories illustrated negative dynamics. As a result, domestic manufacturers could hardly enjoy a new growth driver, which consequently led to a depressed export trend.

In 2015, Canada (16%), Germany (8%), the Netherlands (7%), and Japan (6%) were the main destinations of U.S. dental laboratories exports. Between 2007 and 2015, the share exported to the Netherlands increased (+2 percentage points), while the shares sent to Germany and Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-4 percentage points each).

The U.S. was a net exporter of dental laboratories from 2007 to 2015. However, imports grew faster than exports on average over the period under review.

Net US exports of dental laboratories declined over the period under review. In 2015, this industry ran a trade surplus of 41 million USD, which amounted to approximately 8% of gross exports.
