Fiber Optic Cable Market - U.S. Fiber Optic Cable Exports Grew Steadily Over the Past Decade

The U.S. takes an 18% share (based on USD) of global exports on the fiber optic cable market, which put it in second place, following China (22%). In 2015, the U.S. exported 1,105 million USD, +9% over the previous year.

From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. fiber optic cable exports showed steady growth. There was an annual increase of +12.2% throughout the analysed period. In 2010, U.S. fiber optic cable exporters overcame the pre-recession level achieved in 2007.

As U.S. companies improved their positions on overseas markets, domestic manufacturers enjoyed a new growth driver.

In 2015, the main destinations of U.S. fiber optic cable exports were Canada (22%) and Mexico (21%). The share exported to Canada increased (+2 percentage points), while the share sent to Mexico illustrated negative dynamics (-2 percentage points) between 2007 and 2015.

From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net exporter of fiber optic cable, except a small trade deficit in 2007. Moreover, exports grew faster than imports on average over the period under review.

Net US exports of fiber optic cable showed a positive trend over the period under review. In 2015, this industry ran a trade surplus of 286 million USD, approximately 26% of gross exports.
