From 2008 to 2015, the U.S. custom roll form product market showed mixed dynamics. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by growth over the next years, with exception of drops in 2013 and 2015. In 2015, the custom roll form product market amounted to 9,662 million USD.

U.S. growth in custom roll form product consumption is expected to accelerate to +1.2% (currently +0.4%) in the medium term amid moderate pace of manufacturing growth.

However, growth in consumption will be restrained by the uncertainty in the global economy triggered by plummeting oil prices, the slowing paces of China's economic growth, and collapsing stock markets at the beginning of 2016.

U.S. custom roll form product manufacturing illustrated dynamics similar to the global market dynamics over the last few years. In 2015, the value of shipments in the industry was 8,213 million USD.

Intense competition between importing countries, particularly China and Canada, has increasingly constrained industry performance during this period.

China and Canada were the main suppliers of custom roll form products in the U.S., with a combined 46% share of total U.S. imports in 2015. However, the fastest growing suppliers were Italy (+65.0% per year) and the Republic of Korea (+16.6% per year) from 2007 to 2015. The Republic of Korea (+4 percentage points) and China (+3 percentage points) strengthened their positions in the U.S. import structure. By contrast, Brazil (-4 percentage points) and Canada (-3 percentage points) saw their shares reduced.

In 2015, the main destinations of U.S. custom roll form product exports were Canada (60%) and Mexico. The share exported to Mexico increased (+4 percentage points), while the share sent to Canada illustrated negative dynamics (-2 percentage points). The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Net U.S. imports of custom roll form products showed a mixed trend from 2007 to 2015. Net imports fell steadily from 2009 until the market gave way to a fall in 2011. However, imports began to rise over the next two years and grew to 1.8 million USD in 2015.
