The U.S. is the leader in imports on the global air-conditioning, air heating and refrigeration equipment market, accounting for a 15% share (based on USD). It was followed by Germany (7%) and China (7%). In 2015, U.S. imports of air-conditioning, air heating, and refrigeration equipment totaled 15,435 million USD, which was 204 million USD (1%) higher than the year before.

The U.S. ranks first in global imports of packaging machinery, accounting for a 12% share (based on USD). It was followed by China (8%), Germany (6%) and France (5%). In 2015, U.S. packaging machinery imports totaled 2,625 million USD, which was 119 million USD (4%) less than the year before.

In 2014, China exported 699 million units of air conditioning machines, totaling 9,963 million USD, 3% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Japan, where it supplied 14.5% of its total air conditioning machine exports in value terms, accounting for the largest chunk of Japan's total imports (88%).
