Organic Apple Market - Import Prices Of Organic Apples Are On The Rise

From 2011 to 2015, U.S. imports of organic apples showed a phenomenal growth trend, more than doubling in 2014 and 2015 in relation to their value in the previous year. Imports amounted to 67,762 thousand USD in 2015. There was an annual increase of +85.4% throughout the analyzed period.

According to IndexBox estimates, Chile continued to be the dominant supplier into the U.S. organic apple market. In 2015, Chile's organic apple imports totaled 28,771 thousand USD, which accounted for a 42% share of U.S. imports. New Zealand, Argentina, and Canada covered the rest of the demand for organic apple imports in the U.S., with a combined 57% share of the market.

New Zealand (+128.0% per year) and Argentina (+121.9% per year) were the fastest growing exporters of organic apples to the U.S. from 2011 to 2015. New Zealand significantly strengthened its position in terms of U.S. organic apple imports, growing its share from 14% in 2011 to 33% in 2015.

Import prices for organic apples grew by +23.5% annually from 2011 to 2015. The highest annual rates were recorded in Chile (+25.6%), followed by New Zealand (+21.8%).

The average import price for organic apples was 1.94 USD per kg in 2015. Import prices varied considerably by country of origin. New Zealand (2.91 USD/kg) was a high priced country of origin, while Canada (1.49 USD/kg) and Argentina (1.46 USD/kg) were among the lowest.
