Cyclic Hydrocarbon Market - Korea Surpasses Japan as the Top Global Supplier of Cyclic Hydrocarbons

The global trade in cyclic hydrocarbons fluctuated strongly over the period under review. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by a robust recovery over the next four years, until exports decreased again. Exports ended on a decline in 2015, amounting to 39,342 million USD.

According to IndexBox estimates, the Republic of Korea surpassed Japan as the dominant exporter of cyclic hydrocarbons. In 2015, cyclic hydrocarbon exports from the Republic of Korea totaled 8,321 million USD, which accounted for a 21% share in terms of global exports. Japan, USA, the Netherlands, and Singapore were the other key global suppliers on the cyclic hydrocarbon market in 2015, with a 39% combined share of global exports.

The Republic of Korea (+4.5% per year) and Singapore (+0.4% per year) were the only exporters of cyclic hydrocarbons that showed a positive CAGR from 2007 to 2015. The Republic of Korea significantly strengthened its position in the global cyclic hydrocarbon export structure, growing its share from 14% in 2007 to 21% in 2015.

China (44.5%, based on value terms), USA (7.4%), Belgium (6.7%), India (4.4%), and the Republic of Korea (4.3%) were the leading destinations of cyclic hydrocarbon imports in 2015. Imports to China grew at a quick pace of +5.1% per year from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, Belgium contracted its imports of cyclic hydrocarbons over the same period. China's share in terms of global imports increased significantly (+15 percentage points), while the share of Belgium illustrated negative dynamics (-2 percentage points).
