Organic Avocado Market - Mexico Continues to Dominate U.S. Imports of Organic Avocados

After falling by 24% in 2011, U.S. organic avocado imports showed a robust growth trend from 2012 to 2015, amounting to 45 million USD in 2015. There was an annual increase of 27.2% throughout the analyzed period.

According to IndexBox estimates, Mexico continued to dominate the U.S. market in supplies of organic avocados. In 2015, organic avocado imports from Mexico totaled 43 million thousand USD, which accounted for a 96% share in terms of U.S. imports. Peru was the other key supplier of organic avocados in 2015, with a 4% share of U.S. total organic avocado imports.

Peru (+67.6% per year) was the fastest growing importer from 2011 to 2015, gaining 4% of U.S. organic avocado import market from 2011 to 2015.

Import prices for organic avocados grew by +5.9% annually from 2011 to 2015. The highest annual rates were recorded in Mexico (+6.3%), followed by Peru (+4.2%).

The average import price on the organic avocado market was 2.47 USD per kg in 2015. Organic avocados from Mexico sold for 2.52 USD/kg on the U.S. market, while avocados imported from Peru were priced at 1.39 USD/kg.
