Organic Wheat Market - U.S. Imports of Organic Wheat Remain Stable After a Spike in 2012

U.S. organic wheat imports rocketed from 2011 to 2012 and continued with another surge in the following year. Afterwards, it levelled of near 16 million USD, until it slipped to 15.7 million USD in 2015.

According to IndexBox estimates, Canada continued to lead the way in the supplies to the U.S. organic wheat market. In 2015, Canada's organic wheat imports totaled 11,067 thousand USD, which accounted for a 71% share in terms of U.S. imports. Argentina and Lebanon covered the balance of U.S. imports of organic wheat with a combined 29% share.

Canada (+99.8% per year) and Argentina (+160.7% per year) were the fastest growing exporters of organic wheat to the U.S. from 2011 to 2015. Argentina significantly strengthened its position in terms of U.S. organic wheat imports, from being fairly absent in 2011 to 23% in 2015.

Import prices for organic wheat declined by -0.8% annually from 2011 to 2015. Canada's prices grew at a rate of 2.2% per year.

The average import price for organic wheat was 0.59 USD per kg in 2015. Import prices varied considerably by country of origin. Lebanon (0.85 USD/kg) was a high priced country of origin, while Argentina (0.42 USD/kg) had the lowest prices of all key suppliers.
