Which Countries Consume the Most Cheese?

From 2007 to 2015, the global cheese market showed an upward trend. In 2015, the cheese market was estimated at 21,988 thousand tonnes. In value terms, the cheese market value seesawed due to price fluctuations. It stood at 93,037 million USD, which was 19% less than the years before.

According to market research conducted by IndexBox, the countries with the highest consumption were the U.S. (25%), Germany (8%), France (7%), Italy (7%) and Russia (5%), together comprising almost 52% of global consumption.

The highest annual rates of growth in terms of cheese consumption from 2007 to 2015 were recorded in Russia, with a +2.6% growth, while the U.S., France and Germany, with +1.7%, +1.2% and +1.0% growth, respectively, showed more modest growth.

Amongst the leading consuming countries, high levels of per capita consumption were recorded in Italy (24.2 kg/year in 2015), France (23.3 kg/year) and Germany (23.2kg/year). The annual growth of per capita consumption from 2007 to 2015 was the most notable in Russia, with +2.6% growth.
