From 2007 to 2015, global exports on the ginger market grew by +7.1% per year, amounting to 693 million USD in 2015. In physical terms, exports were 591 thousand tonnes in 2015, 72 thousand tonnes more than the year before.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, China (423 thousand tonnes) was the main exporter of ginger in the world, accounting for 72% of global exports. However, growth rates of ginger exports from China stood at -3.2%. The Netherlands held the second spot in this ranking with a 7% share, growing with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2007 to 2015.

While China's dropped significantly from 85% in 2007 to 72% in 2015, the Netherlands' share displayed a positive dynamic (+4 percentage points).

Export prices for ginger grew by +8.3% annually from 2007 to 2015. The highest annual rates were recorded in Thailand (+11.8%). The average export price for ginger stood at 1,172 USD per tonne in 2015. Export prices varied considerably by country of origin. Peru (2,069 USD/tonne) was a high priced supplier, while Nepal (185 USD/tonne) was amongst the lowest.
