Which Countries Import the Most Ginger?

The value of total imports on the global ginger market in 2015 stood at 724 million USD. There was an annual increase of +7.1% for the period from 2007 to 2015. In physical terms, imports of ginger was 516 thousand tonnes in 2015, 15 thousand tonnes (3%) more than the year before.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, Pakistan (89 thousand tonnes), the U.S. (73 thousand tonnes), Japan (61 thousand tonnes) and the Netherlands (47 thousand tonnes) were the main destinations for ginger imports, together making up 52% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, the Netherlands had the highest growth rates of imports amongst the leaders, with a CAGR of +6.3%. Japan showed a negative dynamic, dropping by -12.1% over the last eight years.

Japan significantly weakened its position in the global import structure from 37% in 2007 to 12% in 2015, while the Netherlands (+ 3 percentage points) saw its share increased.
