Which Countries Import the Most Pyrethrum?

The volume of global imports on the pyrethrum market totaled 6,187 tonnes in 2015. Import dynamics were generally in line with exports, as these trade flows globally complement each other. Following the high trade intensity, imports accounted for about 52% of global demand.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, Switzerland (5,336 tonnes), Tanzania (563 tonnes), Sri Lanka (122 tonnes), and Fiji (75 tonnes) were the leading destinations of pyrethrum imports, together making up 99% of global imports in physical terms. Among the major importing countries, Tanzania (+19.3% per year) gained the highest annual growth rates from 2007 to 2015. While the share of Tanzania increased significantly from 3% in 2007 to 9% in 2015, the share of Switzerland illustrated negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Import prices for pyrethrum increased by an annual average of +6.5% from 2007 to 2015. The average import price for pyrethrum was 1,203 USD per tonne in 2015. However, there were large differences among importing countries. Fiji (15,205 USD/tonne) was the highest priced destination, while Switzerland (686 USD/tonne) was among the lowest.
