Which Countries Produce the Most Bread?

The global production of bread and bakery products illustrated steady growth from 2007 to 2015. In 2015, production amounted to 128.5 million tonnes. In value terms, the output growth was more pronounced from 2007-2011; it then decelerated. From 2007 to 2015, production increased with an annual growth rate of +3.6%, finally reaching 235 billion USD.

The countries with the largest production of bread and bakery products in absolute volumes were the U.S. (13,641 thousand tonnes), Russia (8,649 thousand tonnes), the UK (6,136 thousand tonnes), Germany (5,814 thousand tonnes), Egypt (4,630 thousand tonnes), Brazil (3,572 thousand tonnes) and Italy (3,340 thousand tonnes).

The U.S. was the key producing country on the global bread and bakery product market, with an output of approx. 13,641 thousand tonnes in 2015, which accounted for 11% of total global output. The other major producers were Russia (7%), the U.K. (5%), Germany (4%), and Egypt (4%).

According to market research conducted by IndexBox, the highest annual growth rate of production was observed in the U.K. (+12.5%) and Egypt (+11.5%) from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, Italy (-4.1% per year) showed a negative dynamics.
