In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of cauliflower and broccoli production were China (9,496 thousand tonnes), India (9,161 thousand tonnes), the United States (1,233 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 80% of total output.

Global Cauliflower And Broccoli Production

Global cauliflower and broccoli production amounted to 25,016 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +3.6% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cauliflower and broccoli output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +5% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cauliflower and broccoli production attained its maximum volume of 25,016 thousand tonnes in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, the total cauliflower and broccoli output growth failed to regain its strength.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global cauliflower and broccoli production was primarily driven by popularity of healthy eating. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the cauliflower and broccoli output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The world cauliflower and broccoli harvested area amounted to 1,423 thousand ha in 2015, which was 3.0% more than the previous year figure. The cauliflower and broccoli harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +2.9% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total cauliflower and broccoli harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for globally.
