In 2015, the country with the largest volume of the cucumber and gherkin output was China (59,370 thousand tonnes), accounting for 77% of global production. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Iran with a share of 2%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of cucumber and gherkin producton in China stood at +5.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Russia (+8.1% per year) and Iran (+0.2% per year).

Overall, the global cucumber and gherkin output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +8% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cucumber and gherkin production attained its maximum volume of 77,473 thousand tonnes in 2014, leveling off in the following year.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global cucumber and gherkin production was primarily driven by population growth.
